I’m Tate. I live in Australia in a share-house w some friends from high school and I play football and spend lots of time playing videogames.

I like to learn about computer networking and cool software. If possible I like to implement them into my ever growing self-hosted mess of a homelab.

I have a list of stuff I have setup, and an even longer list of stuff I want to setup (or at least look into). Currently setup:

TrueNAS Scale host (the workhorse)

• VPN (Tailscale)
• Reverse Proxy SSL (NPM)
• DDNS (ddns-updater)
• A homepage for all the TrueNAS services (Homepage)
• Self-hosted image/video management (Immich)
• Password manager (Vaultwarden)
• Discord bot for friends server (Custom Dockerfile / Discord.py scripting)
• Hard drive health monitoring (Scrutiny)
• Cloud sync central node for my personal notes (Obsidian x Syncthing)
• Web VS-Code editor for all mounted storage folders (code-server)
• Host uptime monitoring (Uptime Kuma)
• And now… a blog (Wordpress)

Proxmox virtualisation server (decomissioned)

• Used to be my old main battlestation that I built myself at 15 yrs old, lots of good memories. Forced myself to upgrade because of the growing pains I inflicted on it by changing out the parts every year to keep up with gaming requirements.
• Was used for testing new operating systems like Pop!OS, ubuntu, mint etc.
• Was decommissioned to make space for my lovely girlfriends new PC I built her :)

Archer AX1800 router (“BatLAN and Login”)

• Used for testing setting up services on different subnets
• I don’t want to impair my housemates internet with my constant tinkering so I’ve elected to decommission it until I’ve got free reign over the house’s network (mwaahahah)

Physical switch KVM

• Somehow managed to snag 2 of these for the price of 1. 2-port at work, 4-port at home.
• Helps with debugging issues at my desk

Cisco ASA 5520 firewall/VPN (decomissioned)

• Makes a tremendous noise when switched on so I’m currently banned from using it until I find a good spot for it
• And many other fun projects that sadly have been removed and arent worth mentioning here as this list is already getting long

• ditch duckdns (it goes down so often)

• proper server rack (+cable management)

  • proper DMZ
    • put web services WITHIN dmz
  • guest network
    • DNS content filtering for guest network
• functional piHole
• start a homelabbing blog
• Storj hosting
• NTP time node
• SMTP server
• Cloudflare flan scan
• Nginx Access List implemented correctly (only allow internal resolution)
  • Make pw manager only available internally (+tailscale)
• Setup newsletter for blog

I’m planning to branch out into other hobbies, like miniature painting, and hope to post about that here once I’ve got more to show.
